In partnership with 1st Central, Sussex Cricket have launched 'My Sussex Story'.
We are asking for supporters to tell us why they support the famous Sussex by the Sea and share their greatest memories, and players of the club, with us.
The first 'My Sussex Story' entry comes from Ryan Barney, who tells us all about his time following the club...
1. Who is your all-time Sussex hero?
James Kirtley
2. Why are they your all-time Sussex hero?
Multiple reasons. Wickets speak for themselves, but his character when he had people questioning his action was huge. His ability and discipline to be one not out from 51 balls at the end of the day at Lord's against Middlesex was a big part of why Sussex were so successful during that period. The catch against India was also incredible at the time.
3. Why do you support Sussex?
Because of my dad’s influence. He, like myself, was born and lived in North London his whole life, was a huge fan of John Snow, and therefore chose to support his team.
4. What is your favourite memory of being a Sussex supporter?
Very close between defending 172 against Lancashire in the 2006 C&G final, and Murray Goodwin playing probably the greatest innings I’ve seen live and hitting the final ball for six at Trent Bridge to win the last ever Pro40. I was at both games and both were very unlikely wins, but would have to edge towards the Lord's final.
