My Sussex Story - Nick Gee on Imran Khan, our trophy wins and more

In partnership with 1st Central, Sussex Cricket have launched 'My Sussex Story'. 

We are asking for supporters to tell us why they support the famous Sussex by the Sea and share their greatest memories, and players of the club, with us. 

The latest 'My Sussex Story' entry comes from Nick Gee, who tells us all about his time following the club... 

1. Who is your all-time Sussex hero?
Imran Khan

2. Why are they your all-time Sussex hero?
He was my first Sussex hero forming, with Garth Le Roux, one of the most fearsome opening bowling attacks in the Championship. His subsequent career in politics has continued to further my interest in him. I was lucky enough to meet him twice and his sheer presence and ability to hold the interest of a room full of people was amazing, even when he was "just" a cricketer.

3. Why do you support Sussex?
I watched the 1986 NatWest Trophy Final on TV as a kid and decided to support one of teams to "make it interesting". Sussex was the name of my boarding house at Bedford, so they got the nod! The win meant I was joined for life, becoming a student member in 1995. I was at university with Clare Connor who first spoke to me when she saw my yellow 1993 shirt.

4. What is your favourite memory of being a Sussex supporter?
The 1986 NatWest Trophy win, the 2003 Championship, the 2009 Blast T20, and of course singing both at the Blast Q-F in 2015, and at the Matt Hobden tree-planting ceremony in 2016. "Sussex By The Sea" has become a staple of my concerts ever since!
