Carla Rudd continued her good batting form for Sussex but England’s Nat Sciver was the difference between the sides as Surrey won by five wickets in the Royal London One-Day Women’s Championship at The Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre on Sunday.
Rudd top-scored with 36 as Sussex made 176 for 7 from their fifty overs having been inserted. The wicketkeeper added 62 for the fifth wicket with England’s Freya Davies (23).
Earlier, 16-year-old England Academy player Ella McCaughan made 33, combining with Izzy Collis (17) for a 46-run third wicket partnership.
Sussex’s bowlers made early inroads, reducing Surrey to 31 for 3, but they were unable to dislodge Sciver. The England all-rounder made an unbeaten 80 as the visitors reached their target with 16 balls to spare.
Tara Norris was the pick of the Sussex bowlers, taking 2 for 24 from her ten overs. There was one wicket each for Linsey Smith, Cassidy McCarthy and Nancy Harman.
