Sussex Cricket are delighted to announce the permanent appointment of Gary Wallis-Tayler as Community Cricket Director.
Gary, who was appointed as Interim Head of Community Cricket back in June, will take full control of the Sussex Cricket Foundation from 1st November, after successfully impressing in the interview process.
Having been with Sussex Cricket for 12 years, progressing from a Cricket Development Administrator to his most previous role as South Area Territory Manager, Gary has extensive knowledge of grassroots cricket in the county and has also been a major part of the community cricket leadership team.
As well as playing cricket for Poynings Cricket Club in the 1st CENTRAL Sussex Cricket League, he also leads on our partnership with Chance to Shine, which includes our school and street cricket programmes, in addition to leading on all other school-based initiatives.
Gary has an immense range of contacts in Sussex and great relationships with clubs, schools and local partners throughout, that he has established during the years in his various roles at Sussex Cricket, and knows the community cricket set-up inside out.
In addition, Gary also has a variety of national contacts that he as formed through his work with the ECB and Chance to Shine.
Gary, who has been covering the role since the start of June, when he was put in interim charge, said: “I am very proud to become the new Community Cricket Director at Sussex Cricket.
“The opportunity to drive the Foundation forwards in years to come is one that excites me, whilst continuing the development of cricket in our clubs, schools and communities and inspiring a passion for cricket in the process.
After what has been a challenging time for everyone, I am excited by what the future holds for us all at Sussex Cricket.”
Chief executive Rob Andrew, who previously appointed Gary as Interim Head of Community Cricket said: “Gary has done a terrific job as interim head since earlier in the summer when the pandemic hit cricket hard.
"We have finished the season well with a huge amount of community cricket played across the county once Government regulations allowed. We are now planning and delivering our winter programmes across the county and look forward to Gary leading the community department over the coming years as we build on the already successful work of the Sussex Cricket Foundation".
