In March 2013, former Sussex and Ireland player, Andrew Patterson, was diagnosed with Spastic Paraplegia, a rare hereditary disorder which ultimately results in wheelchair confinement.
Whilst the initial decline was slow, Andrew has discovered that the mutation of the gene responsible for the disorder, is now accelerating his deterioration.
Soon to be confined to a wheelchair, his family are currently adapting their house to accommodate for the changes. They have given everything they have to converting their home and have now exhausted their funds, having spent over £200,000 on renovations.
They are still falling short and need to raise an additional £40,000 to have a lift fitted and give Andrew the freedom to get upstairs, allowing access to his children’s bedrooms and his own.
To help Andrew and his family a charity dinner is being organised by the D&G Group. The dinner will be held in the Long Room at The Kia Oval on Friday 2 September, attendees will be joined by special guests Eoin Morgan CBE, Ian Ward, Andy Balbirnie and Tim Murtagh. The evening will include a champagne reception, dinner and entertainment.
