Nearly 2,000 Sussex schoolchildren have already signed up for the England & Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) flagship junior programmes, Dynamos Cricket and All Stars Cricket, this summer.
Since registrations opened on 22nd March, 1,746 kids in the county – 373 of whom are girls - have signed up for the programmes that are designed to develop cricket skills and instil a lifelong passion for the game.
So far, 1,352 children aged between five and eight are registered to take part in All Stars Cricket sessions at 60 centres across Sussex.
There are currently 394 eight- to 11-year-olds registered at 32 centres for the brand-new Dynamos Cricket programme, which caters for both those graduating from All Stars Cricket or completely new to the sport.
Over 100 activators – the volunteers who run All Stars and Dynamos sessions - have received online training ahead of the programmes getting underway next month, with three face-to-face sessions for new activators taking place at the end of April.
Sussex Cricket Foundation, which administers the programmes in Sussex, anticipates that nearly 2,500 children will take part in All Stars and Dynamos this summer of which approximately 25% will be girls.
Ollie Smith, the Foundation’s All Stars & Dynamos lead, said, “After the tough year that everyone has had, including the cancellation of Dynamos Cricket and curtailment of much of the All Stars Cricket programme last summer, it’s felt like a long time coming but we’re delighted to finally see the ECB National Programmes recommence in 2021.
“We’re hugely looking forward to supporting our club network in delivering a fantastic summer of cricket for girls & boys aged 5 to 11!”
