With the professional season now underway, tomorrow brings the return of The 1st Central Sussex Cricket League.
This season, Premier League title holders Roffey CC will look to defend their title, with a total of 361 teams competing across 38 divisions within the County, this includes 12 new teams and two new divisions from 2022.
Following consultation between the league and its member clubs, a small restructure has taken place at the bottom end of the pyramid with smaller leagues to help combat the number of concessions and ease the burden on clubs.
Not only is there an exciting season ahead in the red ball game, but there are also three T20 competitions taking place with over 100 teams taking part, with The 1st Central Sussex Cricket League T20 Finals day taking place at The 1st Central County Ground on Sunday 24th September.
The league will conclude with the annual Awards Night which will take place on Friday 13th October at The Hilton Metropole, Brighton.
This year’s guest speaker will be ex-England International and Ashes winner, Ashley Giles MBE.
Gary Wallis-Tayler, Community Cricket Director, said: “We are all set for another fantastic summer of cricket across the County”.
“The league continues to grow and there are more opportunities than ever available to players of all ages, genders and abilities to access the game.
“Good luck to all the clubs, players, officials and volunteers, I hope you all enjoy successful summers. I would also like to say thank you to our sponsors, 1st Central, for their continued support to the Foundation and to the 1st Central Sussex Cricket League.”
Gary Stanley, Chair of the league, added: “As we approach another great summer of league competition (weather permitting!), we look forward to seeing thrilling cricket at all levels, from the Premier division all the way down to the newly restructured lower end of the pyramid”.
“We take pride in being able to offer performance and participation-based cricket in equal measure and to anyone who wants to get involved. Go well everybody".
