CANCOM makes generous donation to Sussex Cricket's disability programmes

27 Apr 2021

Sussex Cricket Foundation is extremely grateful for a generous donation from technology services provider, CANCOM UK&I. The money will be put towards the running of Sussex’s county disability teams during the 2021 season.

Sussex will have teams in three disability competitions this summer, the Super 9s and D40 leagues for learning and physically disabled cricketers and the Blind Cricket England & Wales competitions for our Visually Impaired team.

CANCOM staff will also kindly volunteer at events during a bumper summer for recreational disability cricket in the county.

The Sussex Cricket Foundation will be running a Super 1s programme offering regular softball cricket for people with learning and physical disabilities, a table cricket programme for those with more severe disabilities as well as its annual showcase DIScoverABILITY Day.

There are also four new ECB Disability Champion Clubs in the county at Ansty CC, Buxted Park CC, Middleton CC and Polegate & Stone Cross CC.

Gary Wallis-Tayler, Sussex’s community cricket director, expressed his gratitude for CANCOM’s contribution, “We are delighted to receive this extremely generous donation which will help fund our county disability teams this summer. The monies will help provide playing opportunities for those with disabilities as well as enabling us to continue to drive disability cricket forward in Sussex, which is extremely important to us.”

Martin Hess, CANCOM UK&I managing director, said, “We’re proud supporters of the Sussex Cricket Foundation. Our company has a strong Sussex presence. Our charitable giving is aimed at those in society who need a leg up and helping hand. Sussex Cricket Foundation is a perfect fit.”

Aroop Tanna, Sussex Cricket Foundation disability cricket manager added, “These additional funds from CANCOM are extremely welcome. It means we can ensure all 50 members of our Disability squads do not face additional financial hardship in these difficult times, which may prevent them from representing Sussex in national league and cup competitions."
