Brad Currie and Harrison Ward sign T20 contracts with Sussex Sharks

Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce that bowler Brad Currie and batter Harrison Ward have both signed T20 contracts with the Club.

Brad Currie initially joined Sussex on a short-term deal in 2022, making an immediate impact on debut, taking 6-93 in the County Championship against Middlesex at Lord’s.

He then went on to become a key member of the Sharks’ bowling attack, taking 12 wickets in 8 appearances as he helped the side reach the semi-finals of the Royal London Cup.

In 2023 Brad’s skills with the white ball were on full display, culminating in one of the performances of the T20 Vitality Blast campaign, when he took 3-27 against the Hampshire Hawks before pulling off what many have called “the greatest catch of all time”.

Speaking on his new contract, Brad Currie said: “I’m very happy to still be representing this great Club and I am thankful for the opportunities this new deal will hopefully present to me.

“I hope I can create and be a part of some more magical nights for the fans and the team in 2024.”

Another to have signed a T20 contract is explosive batter and part-time spinner, Harrison Ward.

Born in Oxford, Harrison is a product of the talent development partnership between Oxfordshire and Sussex. He is one of two players – alongside James Coles – to have followed this route to the professional squad at The 1st Central County Ground.

In 2023, Ward was promoted to the top of the order for the Sharks during the T20 campaign, a position that brought out the best in him and suited his explosive batting style.

Last season Ward accumulated 165 runs in 7 appearances, average 27.5. His highest score of 57 in the Blast was one of two half-centuries he made for the Sharks that year.

Commenting on the new deal, Ward said: “I’m delighted to have signed an extension at Sussex for next years Blast.

"We showed towards the end of the campaign that we have a squad that is more than capable of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

"With that in mind there is a lot to be excited about at the Club and I look forward to contributing to winning more games of cricket for Sussex."

Sussex Head Coach, Paul Farbrace added: "Harrison is an aggressive top order batter who I think we can keep improving and help us with our approach to T20 cricket.

"He has shown glimpses of real ability and we all feel he could with hard work continue to turn ability into consistent performances.

"Brad showed high quality with the ball and in the field last season in T20 cricket. He swings the new ball and can bowl in all three phases. We are delighted he has committed to our plans moving forward."
