Victory over Kent puts Sussex on brink of Finals Day

14 Jun 2021
Aaron Thomason took charge of a victorious Sussex team

A seven-wicket win against Kent at Polo Farm, Canterbury on Monday put Sussex on the verge of qualification for next week's Second XI T20 finals day at Arundel Castle.

Winning the toss and batting first, Kent recovered from 10 for 3 to post 180 for 7 from their 20 overs. James Coles (3 for 32) and Henry Crocombe (3 for 14) were the pick of Sussex's bowlers.

A brilliant 87 not out from Ali Orr helped Sussex make light work of the chase, with captain Aaron Thomason's side reaching their target with an over to spare. Supported by cameos from Harrison Ward, Oli Carter, Coles and Thomason, Orr smashed five fours and five sixes during his blistering knock.

Sussex have six wins from their eight matches and a win in either of Tuesday's matches against Hamsphire will guarantee top spot of the South Group and a place at next Thursday's Finals Day, where the winners of each of the three regional groups plus the best second-placed finisher will battle it out for the title.
