Sussex returned to the top of division two of the Royal London Women’s County One-Day Championship over the bank holiday weekend.
Their match against Wales on Sunday was abandoned due to the weather, but Sussex recorded a seven-wicket win versus Devon on Monday.
Georgia Elwiss put in a fine all-round performance at North Devon CC taking four wickets and scoring an unbeaten 39.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Devon reached 129-9 off their fifty overs. Freya Davies again made early inroads, removing both openers via the hands of Elwiss.
Elwiss then made light work of the middle order, ending with 4-22 from her ten overs. Linsey Smith, Chiara Green and Tara Norris took a wicket each.
In reply, Sussex’s opening pair of Green and skipper Georgia Adams put on 37 for the first wicket before Green was dismissed for 14.
Ella McCaughan (4) and Adams (21) fell soon after to leave Sussex 55-3, before Elwiss (39*) and Abi Freeborn (33*) put on an unbeaten 75 for the fourth wicket to see the side home with more than 19 overs to spare.
Elwiss’ innings came off just 35 balls and included four fours.
Sussex take a maximum 18 points from the match and leapfrog Surrey to go top of the division.
The side will be looking to confirm promotion straight back to the top flight in their final match away to Berkshire next Sunday.
