A 13-man squad has travelled to the North East for Sussex’s next Specsavers County Championship fixture against Durham, starting on Thursday.
There are two changes to the 13-man squad named for the match against Leicestershire, with Laurie Evans replacing the injured Harry Finch and Delray Rawlins coming in for Danny Briggs.
Looking ahead to the encounter at Emirates Riverside, Sussex men’s head coach said: “We’re excited about the opportunity to play against another strong side in Durham. Both teams are coming off the back of losses and so will be looking to put that right. We know we’re in for a battle.
“The lads were obviously disappointed with the result earlier in the week, but we’ve had some really positive conversations since and everyone has been focussing on the right things; moving on and looking ahead to the upcoming challenges, working out ways in which we can improve and how we can best implement our plans.
“We’ve headed up to Durham with a couple of changes to the squad. One was enforced, with Laurie Evans replaces Harry Finch who is unavailable for this match through injury.
“Delray Rawlins comes in for Danny Briggs as we’ve decided to give ourselves the option of an extra batsman for this fixture. We’ll look at the surface when we arrive in the North East and decide on the balance of our final eleven based on that.”

Opposition
Durham lost their opening Championship match away against Derbyshire by 125 runs. After low-scoring first innings by both sides, the hosts rallied to set Durham a final-day chase of 361. Despite half-centuries for both openers, Gareth Harte and Alex Lees, Durham were dismissed for 235.
Overseas player and captain, Cameron Bancroft, is set for his debut in this week’s match after arriving at Chester-le-Street last weekend. Cameron Steel – who made 160 in the second innings as Durham beat Sussex in the corresponding fixture last year – returns to the squad after missing the Derbyshire game with concussion. Former Leicestershire wicketkeeper Ned Eckersley is in line for his Durham debut after joining the county last week, while academy seamer, Oliver Gibson and batsman Graham Clark are also included. Will Smith, Michael Richardson, Josh Coughlin and Stuart Poynter are left out having made the matchday squad for last week’s match.
