Sussex Women were crowned winners of the South Central Regional Cup yesterday, after beating Oxfordshire by 111 runs, only to have to wait for confirmation of their title as both Sussex and Hampshire finished on the same amount of points and with exactly the same net-run-rate.
Sussex were eventually confirmed as champions thanks to having a better head-to-head record against Hampshire, after beating them by 69 runs earlier in the campaign.
The dominant win over Oxfordshire came after captain Chiara Green once again won the toss and elected to bat. Sussex openers made sure the decision paid dividends once again, with Izzy Collis making 59 from 58 and Phoebe Wilkinson top-scoring with 80 off 108.
That gave the visitors the platform they needed to put on 237, and although they were bowled out in 43.4 overs, it proved to be a big enough target to defend.
In truth, Oxfordshire did not look like chasing the total down, with only two of their batters making double figures.
Anna Buckle starred with the ball for Sussex, taking 5-32 from her 7 overs. Nancy Harman picked up 2-21, with the remaining 3 wickets coming from Chiara Green, Regina Suddahazai and Lottie Jeffrey's, respectively.
It was a fourth win on the bounce for Sussex Women who closed out the cup in style. Congratulations, Sussex Women! #GOSBTS
