A strong Sussex 2nd XI containing a number of first team players recorded two comprehensive victories over Kent in the Second XI T20 at Beckenham on Thursday.
Batting first in the morning game, Kent reached 175-5 off their 20 overs. George Garton was by far the most economical of Sussex’s bowlers, conceding just 26 runs from his four overs, which included the wicket of Alex Blake.
Jofra Archer took 2-39 from his allocation, whilst there was one wicket each for David Wiese and Will Beer.
Phil Salt and Luke Wright’s opening partnership of 109 ensured Sussex made light work of the chase.
Salt hit 54 off 45 balls, whilst Wright smashed 86 from just 38 balls including nine fours and five sixes.
Laurie Evans chipped in with 18 off 15, before overseas player Tom Bruce and wicketkeeper Michael Burgess saw Sussex home to a seven-wicket victory.
Sussex batted first in the afternoon fixture and there was more powerful hitting as the team amassed 222-5 off their 20 overs.
Evans starred with 97 not out from 52 balls, including nine fours and five sixes. Delray Rawlins also made a half-century, scoring 54 from 30 balls from number five.
Kent were unable to get close in reply, reaching 160-9 in their 20 overs. Archer was highly impressive taking three wickets for just 17 runs from his four overs, including 16 dot balls.
Beer and Ollie Robinon took two wickets each and there was one for Wiese as Sussex cruised to a 62-run victory.
Sussex get their Vitality Blast campaign underway next Wednesday, with a visit to Chelmsford to play Essex Eagles.
