Sussex Sharks vs Worcestershire Rapids

Sussex Sharks face Worcestershire Rapids at 2pm on Friday 7th August, as they return to Hove with hopes of bouncing back following a challenging start to their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign.

A high-scoring thriller saw Essex win the toss and elect to bat first at a packed out Arundel Castle last week. Thanks to an impressive ton from opening batsman Noah Thain and contributions from throughout the visitors' top order, the travelling side posted a valiant total of 316/6. In reply, the Sharks fought their way to 316/5 before FHP heaved a Luc Benkenstein full toss to cow corner to see his side over the line. A flashy 73 from young gun Charlie Tear in the powerplay and an unbeaten 59 from the experienced Jack Leaning ultimately helped the hosts pick up their first win of the Metro Bank One Day Cup in 2026.

However, the Sharks' white ball woes were kickstarted once more on Sunday in sunny Derbyshire, as they fell victim to Wayne Madsen's 9th List A hundred and career best figures of 5-28 from left arm spinner, Jack Morley, in a 188 run loss. The result sees Paul Farbrace's side rooted to the bottom of the table with just three games left in the competition's group stage.

Jack Carson and his team return to the south coast, under the floodlights, with hopes of inflicting further misery to a bruised Worcestershire side - a team Sussex have not faced in List A cricket since 2023.

Paul Farbrace has named his 15-player squad which sees the return of Tom Haines, who is set to make his first appearance for the Sharks in white ball colours since 2025. 

Oli Carter, John Simpson and Fynn Hudson-Prentice all return from injury and are available for selection against the Rapids.

The Opposition

Worcestershire sit 4th in the table following a strong start in the competition, however hopes of a quarter final were tarnished by their 107 run loss to Essex, who recorded an emphatic 376-5 against the Rapids last Sunday. Early wins over Derbyshire, Hampshire and Middlesex however, have ensured the West Midlands side remain in the fight for a place in the knockouts.  

Young batsman, Henry Cullen, has shone for Worcestershire so far in this tournament, averaging 46 across his 5 innings, having reached the half century mark on 3 occasions. Worcestershire skipper, Jake Libby will be hoping to take a step closer to securing a top 4 spot when they visit the south coast on Friday.
