Stiaan van Zyl will miss Sussex’s shortened 2020 season, but will return to the club for the 2021 campaign.
With limited flights between South Africa and the UK, the country’s visa system down and a likely quarantine period necessary upon arrival, it was deemed sensible that van Zyl remained in Cape Town this summer.
While we will certainly miss the South African batsman, who scored two centuries for Sussex in 2019 and was our leading run-scorer in the County Championship, we look forward to welcoming him back to Hove next year.
Van Zyl’s South African counterpart, David Wiese will also miss the Bob Willis Trophy campaign, but the club still hope to have him back in Hove for the start of the Vitality Blast.
