Sussex suffered an innings and 203-run defeat against Middlesex in their Second XI Championship match at Radlett this week.
Sussex skipper Jack Carson won the toss and and elected to bat. Fynn Hudson-Prentice – on loan ahead of a permanent move at the end of the season - was the visitors’ top-scorer with 21.
Veteran seamer Tim Murtagh led the Middlesex attack, with 4 for 25 from his 11.3 overs. Ethan Bamber, Toby Roland-Jones and Ben Cullen each took two wickets.
A dominant 244 not out from Steve Eskinazi saw Middlesex rack up 517 for 8 declared in their reply. Support came from Robbie White (79) and Ben Cullen (52).
Hudson-Prentice, Henry Crocombe, Joe Sarro each took two wickets for Sussex, with James Coles and pathway player and Hurstpierpoint College player, Bertie Foreman picking up one each.
Sussex fared slightly better in their second innings, making 208. Oxfordshire/Sussex Academy player Zach Lion-Cachet (39) and Sussex pathway player Tom Hinley (32) made middle order contributions, before pathway wicketkeeper Charlie Tear top-scored with 75 at number eight.
Murtagh took three more wickets, as did Bamber. Cullen, Roland-Jones and left-arm spinner Thilan Walallawita were the other wicket-takers as Middlesex secured a comprehensive win.
