Sussex suffered a five-wicket defeat against Kent in the Second Eleven Trophy at Preston Nomads CC on Bank Holiday Monday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sussex struggled. Michael Burgess top-scored with 43 from 41 balls, with only two other batsmen, captain Tom Haines (27) and Delray Rawlins (12) making it into double figures. The side were bowled out in the 29th over for 142.
Kent were made to work reasonably hard for the win, losing five wickets as they chased down the target in just over 33 overs. Abi Sakande was the pick of the bowlers, taking two for 32 from his ten overs.
Luke Wells snared a brace, taking two for 27 from seven overs. The other Kent wicket went to debutant and former Middlesex 2nd XI player, Usman Arif, who took 1-32 from six overs of right-arm seam.
