Despite only bowling four overs, Sussex seamer Ollie Robinson made a strong impression on the selectors during the one day of play that was possible in England's intra-squad warm up match at Hambantota ahead of their Test series against Sri Lanka.
Robinson was part of a Joe Root-led side that took on a Jos Buttler XIII in the two-day match at the MRIC Stadium scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Team Root posted 184 for 2 in 50 overs batting first, thanks largely to an unbeaten 74 from the Test captain and support from Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence.
Taking the new ball with James Anderson, Robinson had enough time in his short spell to pick up the scalps of Dom Sibley and Sam Curran as Team Buttler laboured to 120 for 6 at the close of day one. Anderson and Jack Leach also picked up two wickets each.
Day two was completely washed out, but Robinson - finishing with 2 for 15 - will have done his standing no harm despite the curtailment. The first Test gets underway in Galle next Thursday.
