If you weren’t already excited about Rashid Khan pulling on a Sussex Sharks shirt this summer, then the leg-spinner’s latest IPL performance should do the trick.
Following on from his man-of-the-match performance on Tuesday night, Rashid put in another eye-catching performance on Thursday night that showed exactly why the 19-year-old is the best T20 bowler on the planet.
After his Sunrisers Hyderabad side had been restricted to another below-par score of 132-6, many punters would have made Kings XI Punjab favourites.
They hadn’t reckoned on Rashid taking 3-19 during his four overs, however.
Entering the attack in the eighth over, our Afghan prodigy struck almost immediately with a mind-bogglingly good leg-break to dismiss the well-set Lokesh Rahul for 32.
Up until that point, Kings XI had been cruising at 55-0, but Rashid’s intervention prompted a flurry of wickets.
His next over went for just four and then four balls into his third he bamboozled Karun Nair with a googly that trapped the Kings XI number four leg before.
After three overs, Rashid had ridiculous figures of 2-9. His final over – the 18th – included a couple of boundaries as Kings XI desperately tried to salvage their chase, but that didn’t stop him picking up a third wicket with Ravi Ashwin caught in the covers.
Rashid now has nine wickets in this year’s IPL, putting him one behind the leading wicket taker in the tournament.
And to think that in a couple of months he’ll be doing his thing for Sussex. We can’t wait, and neither can he…
