An explosive century for Michael Burgess was the highlight of Sussex 2nd XI’s three-day friendly against MCC Young Cricketers at Richmond CC which ended in a draw after the second and third days were completely washed out.
Arriving at the wicket with Sussex struggling on 25-3 in their first innings, Burgess smashed 131 from just 70 balls, including 13 fours and five sixes.
The next highest score in the side’s 249 all out was George Garton’s 37 from number seven.
Two players with first-team experience for Sussex were among the wicket-takers for the MCC Young Cricketers. Fynn Hudson-Prentice took 2-92, picking up the scalps of Laurie Evans and Elliot Hooper, while Adam Barton (1-44) bowled Jake Hutson.
Abi Sakande and Hooper took a wicket each during the home side’s reply which had reached 181-2 at the close of day one.
Torrential rain and leaky covers then conspired to wipe out the remainder of the match.
