Sussex Cricket are pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Spence to fill the vacant Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach position at the club.
Matthew joins us from Reading FC where he has worked as Academy Sports Scientist/S&C Coach and most recently as Professional Development Phase S&C Coach.
The St Mary’s and Loughborough University graduate’s experience working in cricket comes from his time as Assistant S&C Coach for Surrey CCC’s men’s first team and Lead S&C Coach for Kia Women’s Super League team, Surrey Stars.
Spells at England Netball, Wasps RFC and Watford FC complete a diverse professional history for Matthew.
Speaking ahead of joining Sussex Cricket on Monday 10th December, Matthew said: “I’m delighted to have joined such a prestigious club and excited by the opportunity to help develop the players physically.
“Hopefully we can build on the performances of last season and continue challenging across all formats.”
Director of Cricket, Keith Greenfield added: “Matthew’s wealth of experience from a wide-range of sports will be a fantastic addition to the performance cricket department.
“Effective strength and conditioning is crucial to ensuring our players are performing at the highest level possible as often as possible, so it’s great to have someone of Matthew’s calibre leading on that front.
