Sussex’s Jofra Archer made a dream start to his Indian Premier League (IPL) career as he was named man of the match in Rajasthan Royals’ thrilling win over Mumbai Indians on Sunday evening.
In a brilliant display of death bowling – the kind that has made him one of the hottest cricketers in the world at the moment – Jofra took three wickets in five balls during the penultimate over of Mumbai’s innings.
First, he had Krunal Pandya caught at long on with the first ball of the over, then he ripped out Hardik Pandya’s middle stump with the fourth. The very next ball was a searing yorker that bowled Mitch McClenaghan.
Jofra’s four overs went for just 22 runs, giving him by far the best economy rate of any bowler on the night.
Set 168 for victory, Rajasthan Royals – having at one stage needed 43 from 17 deliveries – secured a three-wicket victory with two balls to spare. Jofra made eight batting at number seven.
