Jofra Archer will make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut this winter after being signed by Hobart Hurricanes.
The all-rounder fills the Hurricanes’ second international player berth, which was left vacant following Surrey player Tom Curran’s call up to the England Ashes squad.
Hobart’s line-up now has a strong Sussex influence, with Jofra’s teammate Tymal Mills and former overseas player, George Bailey also in the squad. Bailey is the Hurricanes’ captain.
Speaking to the Hobart Hurricanes website, Jofra said: “It was a big honour to be asked, firstly. Some of the best players in the world play in the tournament and it’s a great opportunity for myself to keep learning about the game and to get better.”
“I’ve watched the Big Bash every year so far and had a couple of team mates and friends play in the competition – every year it continues to get better.”
Jofra has been in high demand with sides around the world this winter after a stunning first full season in county cricket where he took 84 wickets and scored 764 runs across all three formats.
The 22-year-old is currently playing for Khulna Titans in the Bangladesh Premier League, which concludes on Tuesday 12th December.
The 2017/18 BBL runs from Tuesday 19th December 2017 to Sunday 4th February 2018. Luke Wright is the other Sussex player involved in the tournament. He will feature once again for the Melbourne Stars.
