Sussex pair Phil Salt and Michael Burgess helped Adelaide University Cricket club seal a place in the final of South Australia Premier Cricket's T20 competition with a thrilling win over Port Adelaide on Tuesday.
With Jason Gillespie in the crowd, Burgess grabbed the opportunity to impress his new head coach by smashing 72 runs off just 39 deliveries, while Salt also did well to record a tidy 13 from 10 deliveries, as the Blacks set their opponents a target of 173 to reach the final.
Port Adelaide started quickly, and set up a tense finale thanks to solid performances from their opening five batsmen, but after a run-out from Burgess, they ultimately fell five runs short of their aim.
Salt, Burgess and Adelaide University will now face Tea Tree Gully CCC in the final of the T20 competition, after they overcame Glenelg District Cricket Club.
