A sensational Harry Finch double hundred at more than a run-a-ball took Sussex agonisingly close to pulling off a mammoth run chase against Yorkshire in a 2nd XI three-day friendly at The 1st Central County Ground.
Yorkshire had made 457 for 6 declared in their first innings, with Abi Sakande taking 3 for 90 and Reece Topley picking up 2 for 47 in his 16 overs.
With the weather taking significant time out of the game, both sides then forfeited an innings, leaving Sussex a hefty chase on the final day.
A 225-run second-wicket partnership between Finch and Tom Clark (71) was compiled at pace and when that was followed by a 161-run third-wicket stand between Finch and Alastair Orr (85*) in just 28 overs Sussex were well on track for victory.
Finch fell for 221 off 212 balls with 30 fours and seven sixes with Sussex requiring 72 to win. A further three wickets fell in quick succession, but Orr and Jack Carson (19*) got Sussex within 28 runs of victory when bad light intervened and ended the game as a draw.
