Sussex recorded victory over Gloucestershire in the Second XI Championship match at Bath CC that concluded yesterday (Thursday 26th July).
Sussex posted 397 all out in their first innings thanks to a hundred from Brandon Gilmour against his old club and support from the rest of a middle order containing Delray Rawlins (67), Aneesh Kapil (48) and George Garton (42)
Gloucestershire were then bowled out for 314, with Will Beer taking 5-67, Garton 3-44, Stuart Whittingham 1-34 and Rawlins 1-28.
Sussex’s second innings of 155 all out was again built upon runs from Gilmour (68), who was elevated to the top of the order. A number of other players got starts, but were unable to go on to a big score meaning that Gloucestershire would need 239 for victory.
The home side were reduced to 71-8, before partnerships of 76 and 52 for the final two wickets respectively gave them some hope.
Kapil took the final wicket with Gloucestershire 40 runs short, however, to secure the win for Sussex. He finished with 3-7 from 4.5 overs, with Garton taking 3-57, Whittingham 2-33 and Abi Sakande 2-42.
