Danni Wyatt leads England to IT20 series win over Sri Lanka

26 Mar 2019

Sussex Women star Danni Wyatt helped England make it five wins from five on their tour of Sri Lanka this morning, with her 37 off 25 balls leading the tourists to a comfortable eight-wicket victory in Colombo.

After winning the ODI leg of the tour 3-0, Heather Knight's side won the opening IT20 on Sunday and backed up that performance with another dominant display, both with the ball and with the bat, to win the IT20 series with a match to spare.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat, but struggled throughout their innings with Sussex's Freya Davies and Linsey Smith opening the bowling impressively and five England bowlers claiming a wicket.

Although Davies and Smith didn't get the wickets their work deserved, the duo set the tone for England's performance. Davies was particularly impressive on just her second appearance for the national side, bowling four overs for just 15 runs, while Smith conceded 19 from her two overs.

Nat Sciver made the breakthrough, dismissing Chamari Atapattu with her first delivery, before Shashikala Siriwardene and Imalka Mendis fell to Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight in quick succession.

Katherine Brunt also bowled excellently, eventually finishing with figures of 4-31, and Sri Lanka were restricted to 108-6 from their 20 overs.

In reply, England flew out of the blocks, wasting no time in getting ahead of the required run-rate. Wyatt lead from the front, opening the batting alongside Amy Jones, and the pair added 79 in just 7 overs.

Wyatt hit three fours and one six before being stumped off Siriwardene for 37. With 19 runs still needed, Jones was next to be dismissed, for 36 off Siriwardene again, but Tammy Beaumont and Sciver knocked off the final requirement with 37 balls to spare to complete another resounding win.
