Ask Rashid Khan anything!

15 May 2020

Thanks to those of our fans who sent in their questions via social media for our overseas star, Rashid Khan!

The world’s number one T20 bowler answered the best over on our Instagram story, which you can watch back here. Alternatively, you can read his replies below...

Q: What tips do you have for turning the ball?

A: To turn the ball, you need to have strong fingers and need to practice spinning the ball in your hands a lot. That is something that makes you stronger, and then you can turn the ball on any track.

Q: Why don’t you do a front flip when you celebrate a wicket!?

A: I think my aeroplane celebration suits me. I don’t think I have practiced front flips enough… I think I will injure myself!

Q: What’s you favourite thing about Sussex?

A: I absolutely love playing there in front of that beautiful crowd. They always give us amazing support. I also love my teammates, the coaching staff – everyone. I love being there, enjoying myself.

Q: How does it feel playing at such an amazing level of cricket?

A: It feels lovely. It feels lovely to be at this stage. Most importantly, I am enjoying each and every moment and trying my best to be consistent at this stage.

Q: Who is the most challenging batsman you’ve encountered while at Sussex?

A: For me, every batsman is so challenging and I enjoy my competition with each and every batsman. Whoever is batting against me, I love bowling to him and I just keep enjoying each and every moment.

Q: Who is the funniest at Sussex?

A: There are a few guys in the team who are quite funny. Luke Wright, he is on top, but Salty is there and a few other guys are funny in the team.

Q: How do you spend your day at the moment?

A: At the moment, I am just staying at my home, staying safe and focussing on my fitness. I’m also trying to learn something new in the kitchen! I have started cooking to help the family.

Q: Who is the best player you have played with at Sussex?

A: Alex Carey, Phil Salt, Luke Wright, Laurie Evans. I think I have played with so many fantastic players at Sussex and across my career.

Q: Would you prefer a 100 or five-wicket haul in T20/First-Class cricket?

A: I would love to have a hundred, as I have already taken five wickets in a T20. A hundred in any format would be awesome.

Q: How much do you miss Sussex?

A: I’m missing Sussex a lot at the moment, especially the fans, the teammates and the coaching staff. I’m missing each and every one of them a lot.

Q: What’s your favourite format to play and watch?

A: T20 is my favourite format to play but my favourite format to watch is Test cricket. There’s always something for you to learn from it.

Q: What is your favourite Sussex memory?

A: My favourite Sussex memory is my debut for the Sharks, and also a thing I love is when we take a wicket at Hove with the crowd behind us, cheering for us. That is something I really love.

Q: What is the best thing about playing at Hove?

A: Playing at Hove is always special for me, in front of that beautiful crowd, amazing crowd. The teammates supporting each other, the coaching staff… I love being there and playing for my team, Sussex.

Q: Favourite wicket you’ve ever taken?

A: So many wickets are my favourite, but three of them are most memorable for me. MS Dhoni’s wicket, Virat Kohli’s and AB De Villiers are my favourite from this year I think.

Q: Who is your best friend in cricket?

A: I have so many best friends in different leagues, in different teams. At Sussex, I have Salt, Luke Wright, Laurie Evans, Mills, Jordan, Archer…

Q: What is your favourite spin to bowl?

A: My favourite spin to bowl is the wrong’un, which I love the most. That’s the one I get most of my wickets with as well! Take care, stay at home, stay safe and take care of yourself and your family. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon and we will see each other again soon at Sussex.
