Ali Orr made half-centuries in both innings of Sussex’s weather-impacted draw against Essex in the 2nd XI Championship this week.
Winning the toss at Blackstone Academy Ground, sponsored by Hurstpierpoint College, Essex elected to bat and made an imposing 477 for 6 declared.
Former Sussex loanee, Varun Chopra made 211 and added 220 for the first wicket with Josh Rymell. Jamie Atkins took three wickets, Henry Crocombe two and Joe Sarro one.
In reply, Sussex were dismissed for 191. Orr’s 80 off 159 balls at the top of the order was the only score of note, as seamer Ben Allison took 4 for 35 from 18 overs and Aaaron Nijjar 3 for 51 from 15.
Asked to follow on on the final day, Sussex reached the close at 146 for 3, with Orr once again providing the bulk of the team’s runs. He finished not out on 70 from 100 balls.
